St Alban’s Episcopal Church Bolivar, Missouri Wednesday, January 18, 2023 News and upcoming events The Prairie Project We have tentatively moved date of the huge tarp “resettlement” and seeding of the newly bare spot on the back prairie to THIS Saturday, January 21, 2023 beginning at 10:00 AM. It will be cold, but colder weather and rain/snow will arrive in the later afternoon. We should be okay in the morning – It will take whatever human-power that can be assembled to get this done expeditiously – Please come if you are able. The 1/8 acre tarp will be moved over, and again weighed down to allow a year for the vegetation in that area to die before that space, too, will be planted with native wildflowers and grasses. Bishop’s Committee THIS SUNDAY after Church If you are already a member, please make every effort to be present. If you are interested in the work that this committee does, you are also welcome to attend. This is the first meeting since Mother Cathy announced her upcoming retirement, and there is a lot to think about, to plan for, to consider. Paula Shepard will chair the meeting, as Bishop’s Warden. Deacon Ryan Williams at Christ Church I found the YouTube video of last Sunday’s service at Christ Church, Springfield, and got to watch Ryan serve as deacon for the celebration. He looks so completely at home vested, processing, reading the Gospel, setting the table. You can see glimpses of Anna and John Mark, too. Check it out! Adult Education The Prayer Book 3 Sundays, February 5,12,19, 9:30 AM Many of you own your own copies now. If you do, have one, please bring it with you. There’s a whole lot in between those covers that you probably haven’t yet discovered! It isn’t just for Sunday morning, either. Paul: What is he really all about? February 26, March 5, 12, 19, 26 Why does Mother Cathy love him, feminist that she is? How do we understand the relationship between Paul and the Gospels? It is popular to read these days that Paul distorted the simple Gospel of Jesus. Is that true? An Apology Mother Cathy has been down with what seems to be a miserable cold this week, so didn’t write any newsletter until today. This afternoon Olivia Cox tested positive for COVID, and is in quarantine, but as of today, Minda, Sarah and Mother Cathy who have all felt icky, are negative – but will test again on Friday. If Cathy is positive then, we will simply have Morning Prayer on Sunday. A Need Before we go to buy one, does anybody have a sturdy, non-slip step stool that Lindsey and/or RB can use? Lindsey uses a cushioned kneeler, but it makes me nervous, because it is susceptible to sliding and letting her fall. Now that she is two, she prefers to stand beside me rather than to be held – but she hates not to be able to see. See her peeking over the altar! Next Sunday Arabella and Alice will begin to serve as acolytes, assisting in setting the table, and during the Eucharistic prayer, and returning the vessels after the Eucharist. Children are always invited to assist in any way, as crucifers, as readers, as musicians, as members of the altar guild, and as ushers. Let Mother Cathy or Becca Cox know if you want to be included in any way. |
