The Fourth O antiphon O Key of the House of David, come

The fourth great “O” O, Key of David, come

The phrase, “key of David” comes first from Isaiah 22:22. when Eliakim is promised the “key of the house of David,” to replace Shebna, who has proven unfaithful and self-serving. “On that day I will call my servant Eliakimson of Hilkiah, and I will clothe him with your robe, and bind your sash on him. I will commit your authority to his hand, and he shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the house of Judah. I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David; he shall open, and no one shall shut; he shall shut and no one shall open…”
Revelation 3:7 says, referring to Jesus, “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens.”
Jesus is himself the Key of the house of David – the one who opens, and no one can shut -who frees, who gives access to God.

“O come, o come, thou key of David come,
And open wide our heavenly home,
Make safe the way that leads on high,
and close the path to misery.”

Christmas Eve Christmas Eve afternoon we will set out the little luminarias/farolitos – if the weather is neither rainy nor too windy. Anyone who would like to help fill the bags with sand, or set in the candles, or line the sidewalks is welcome to help! They will be lit about 4:30 – and if we are fortunate, they will burn most of the night to give joy to anyone who passes by.
Eucharist with organ, candlelight and Christmas carols at 5:30 pm -Friday, December 24, 2021

Yesterday after church the Christmas tree was brought down, and the huge wreath hung – The few children who were not sick made ornaments for their trees – and some for the Church tree as well.
