Hebrews 12:1-2and St Clare of Assisi

Hebrews 12:1-2 (The Sunday reading is longer, but it all leads to this…Our faithful ancestors remain)“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus the pioneer and perfecter of our faith who, for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has taken his seat at the right hand of the throne of God. “Imagine all the saints, all our ancestors in faith from Abraham through Moses and David and the prophets, Rebecca, Deborah, Abigail and Ruth -plus all those who lived in Jesus’ time -and through all the two thousand years since -including those of our own congregation who have died – Dick and Thyra Gibson, Romain Morgan, Lowell and Jerri Korber, Deborah Rocha, – and all the ones you are remembering in your own families -Imagine them all in a stadium too large to even see from side to side – all of them surrounding you – you – as you run the race “that is set before” you – not to criticize but to cheer you on, prod of you, delighted to see you run! That’s the image the author of Hebrews has in mind!

One of those among the great cloud of witnesses – Clare of Assisi with a word

Pray for The Walkers – Now both Rocky and Lexi are sick with COVID and the little ones are also running low grade temperatures and sniffling. Pray also for Lloyd Hensley who had surgery for a skin cancer yesterday, but says he’s only feeling tired, and that they removed it all! And for teachers, school administrators, board members who are already dealing with the kind of absurd rumors nobody would have taken seriously a generation ago. No there are no litter boxes at BPS. Or anywhere else, either.
