Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sins of my soul?” He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God? The Prayer Book Mistake If you look at the top of page 847 of the Book of Common Prayer, (within the section called “catechism”, you will find the following question and answer: Q. What response did God require from the chosen people? A. God required the chosen people to be faithful; to love justice, to do mercy, and to walk humbly with their God. I wonder if you see the error? And if you do, how do you think this mistake has affected the work and ministry of Christians in general, and Episcopalians in particular? |
