The final week of Easter
Pentecost in the wings

On Sunday we celebrated the high school graduations of both Sarah and Olivia Cox

We also enjoyed the company of Eunice Gititu’s family from Memphis – Mother Cathy and Becca actually knew them there 20+ years ago – when Marcus was a very little boy!

Pentecost – this Sunday is the “end” the culmination, the goal of Easter. *Red, orange and yellow are typical “fire” colors – Wear them on Sunday if you wish!

In the meantime, as we prepare, here are some musical prayers as we prepare for the feast.

#508 – from the Latin, 9th century
Come Holy Ghost our souls inspire,
and lighten with celestial fire.
Thou the anointing Spirit art,
who dost thy sevenfold gifts impart.
Thy blessed unction from above is comfort light, and fire of love.
Enable with perpetual light
the dullness of our blinded sight.
Anoint and cheer our soiled face with the abundance of thy grace.
Keep far our foes, give peace at home:
where thou art guide, no ill can come.
Teach us to know the Father, Son,
and Thee of both, to be but One.
that through the ages all along,
this may be our endless song:
praise to thy eternal merit,
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

#508 – Edwin Hatch (1835-1889)
Breathe on me, breath of God,
fill me with life anew,
that I may love what thou dost love,
and do what thou wouldst do.
Breathe on me, breath of God,
until my heart is pure, until with thee I will one will,
to do what thou wouldst do.
Breathe one me, breath of God
till I am wholly thine,
till all this earthly part of me
glows with thy fire divine.
Breathe on me, breath of God,
so shall I never die;
but live with thee the perfect life
of thine eternity.

Hymn #513 – Carl P Daw (b. 1944)
Like the murmur of the dove’s song,
like the challenge of her flight,
like the vigor of the wind’s rush,
like the new flame’s eager might:
Come, Holy Spirit, come.
With the healing of division,
with the ceaseless voice of prayer,
with the power to love and witness,
with the peace beyond compare;
come, Holy Spirit, come.
