Third Sunday of Advent

Sing the praises of the Lord, for he has done great things, and this is known in all the world. Isaiah 12You might want to come a few minutes early today so you can hear Sandy Sherry sing the second prelude.
You also only get to see the rose colored frontal on the altar, and the rose vestments twice a year, on the third Sunday of Advent and the fourth Sunday of Lent – midway between the beginning of the season and the celebrations of Christmas and Easter. It’s refreshment – it’s joy, in anticipation of the feast we are awaiting.

Canticle 9 (in place of the Psalm – Isaiah 12:2-6)

Surely, it is God who saves me; I will trust in him and not be afraid. For the Lord is my stronghold and my sure defense, and he will be my Savior. Therefore you will draw water with rejoicing from the springs of salvation. And on that day you shall say, Give thanks to the Lord and call upon his Name; Make his deeds known among the peoples; Sing the praises of the Lord, for he has done great things, and this is known in all the world. Cry aloud, inhabitants of Zion, ring out your joy, for the great one in the midst of you is the Holy One of Israel.

Share Your Christmas
This is from last year -but it will look like this on Sunday after dinner, too. We have fewer bags this year, fewer families overall, which means that people actually are doing better! Nevertheless, we do have 88 children ages 10-12 for whom we will need to to fill bags.
You all have been magnificent! We have a whole lot of gifts you have purchased all in front of the altar to be blessed on Sunday. I counted at least 40, which means every one of you, plus babies, have taken an angel from one of the trees in town and gotten what a child requested. I am so very proud.
In case you still have a gift you haven’t brought please make sure you bring it tomorrow!

The Collect for Today
Stir up your power, O Lord, and with great might come among us; and because we are sorely hindered by our sins, let your bountiful grave and mercy speedily help and deliver us; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and for ever. Amen.
