St Alban’s Episcopal Church Bolivar, Missouri Saturday, September 30, 2023 Tobit learning continues, Father Ross Stuckey joins us for The Blessing of the Animals! COMING UP Sunday School A Troy pound or 12 Troy ounces of silver. In our October 1, 2023 Sunday School lesson on the Book of Tobit, the Arch Angel Raphael will take four servants and two camels to carry Tobit’s treasure of 10 Babylonian Talents or 9,741 Troy ounces of silver back to Tobit’s son Tobias and his new bride Sarah (recently saved on her wedding night from a demon). The Blessing of the Animals Please join us, this Sunday, October 1, for our Blessing of the Animals service. Bring your animal – no really, bring your live animal! If you’re too nervous, bring a collar or photo for Father Stuckey to bless. What is Blessing of the Animals? This is a day when we honor all of God’s creation and all of God’s creature and also celebrate the work of St. Francis of Assisi. Is this new? Nope. This isn’t a St. Alban’s thing or even a 2023 thing, it’s an Episcopal Church thing and has been for many years. Throughout the weekend, you’ll see many Episcopal churches (including the National Cathedral) holding an outdoor service. This isn’t limited to dogs and cats, so if you’ve got an exotic pig or zebra, they can get a blessing too. COMMUNICATIONS Over the next few weeks and months, the communications will look different from St. Albans. The newsletter will continue but there will be changes as we shift into new roles. If you have something for the newsletter, please send it to the church email (stalbans211@gmail.com) by Tuesday so we can get it into the newsletter for the upcoming week. We are learning in this new chapter and we ask for grace as we figure out all of the moving pieces. THIS SUNDAY: October 1 CELEBRANT: Ross Stuckey Rite II with the blessing to follow. MARK YOUR CALENDARS: 10/1- Father Ross Stuckey will celebrate our Blessings of the Animals service. (Bring your animal(s) or a photo or a collar to have it blessed. |
